Like the other team members of The Wallace Firm, P.C., Brant was born and raised in Alpena, Michigan, and loves to spend time in Alpena with his family in the great outdoors. He graduated with honors from Alpena High School in 1995 and grew up attending St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, right next to where The Wallace Firm, P.C., now resides. After high school, Brant attended Ferris State University where he received an academic scholarship, before transferring to the University of Michigan for the remainder of his undergraduate years. At Michigan, Brant studied English, Writing, and Native American Studies, including course work in the Chippewa(Anishinaabe) Language. He went on to pursue a Master’s Degree in Composition and Rhetoric at the University of Michigan-Flint, and was a Professor of Writing at Lansing Community College, and Mott Community College in Flint. In 2016, Brant was accepted to Wayne State University Law School and began pursuing his legal education.
At Wayne State Law, Brant focused on Environmental Law, Constitutional Law and Public Interest, with internships at the Great Lakes Environmental Law Center in Detroit, The United States Environmental Protection Agency in Ann Arbor, and the ACLU of Detroit, MI. Brant acted as Chairman of the Wayne State Law ACLU chapter and President of the Wayne State Law Environmental Law Society. He was the recipient of the Judge Philip J. Glennie Law Student Scholarship for outstanding law students from Northeast Michigan, and also received the American Indian Law Section Scholarship from the State Bar of Michigan.
After graduating from law school in 2019, Brant worked at Tishkoff P.L.L.C, a private litigation firm in Ann Arbor, Michigan that specializes in real estate and commercial litigation disputes. He then took the Bar Exam in February of 2020, and was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in May of 2020. Brant then took a position at Lakeshore Legal Aid, which is a nonprofit legal aid agency for primarily low income and elderly citizens of Michigan who cannot afford legal representation. At Lakeshore, Brant logged hundreds of hours of litigation time in the 36thDistrict Court in Detroit, and focused primarily on Housing Law, including tax-foreclosure, land contract forfeiture, and landlord-tenant eviction proceedings. Brant is happy to join the team at The Wallace Firm, P.C., as of June 2021.
