Katy Carignan is an enthusiastic hiker and nature lover. She has hiked throughout much of the US and Europe and is passionate about conservation and the importance of natural spaces. She loves her 1914 home on Lake Huron and the natural beauty of the area. She is also passionate about arts and culture. She began working in the arts as a child and it has remained a lifelong passion. Since moving to Michigan, she served as a board member of the Rogers City Community Theatre, has directed three musical shows, has founded an improv group and beginning in 2023 is working with a partner to create a new space for Arts and Culture in Rogers City. As a young attorney she helped found the Urban Green Partnership in Philadelphia, PA to help community members, businesses, and nonprofits find ways to make the city a healthier and greener place. She rehabbed a 1924 warehouse in Miami, FL to create a revitalized space for artists to live and work in downtown Miami. The project took a blighted property and made it an anchor space in a new downtown arts center. She has been the Director of Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and LegalArt where she helped artists and small arts businesses with legal issues. In addition, she has a background in sexual violence and human trafficking prevention. Serving as the Co-Chair of the Northeast Florida Human Trafficking Coalition and the Director of Child Victim Services for a Sexual Assault Services center.
